Patients with irregular, raised, wide or even painful scars as a result of previous surgery (any) or trauma, are appropriate candidates for scar revision. Although certain variables; such as the type and anatomical location of the original scar, genetic predisposition, amount of soft tissue originally removed or the extent of previous trauma/surgery – may be risks for scar recurrence, most patients do benefit from scar revision. Considering this, each scar revision is individually tailored.
A scar resulting from the removal of a skin lesion, previous scar or subcutaneous mass is permanent and may change with time due to the lesser tensile strength of repaired tissues, genetic predisposition or location. Plastic surgery techniques are applied to optimize scar healing. In addition, modified activity level is needed for about 3 weeks following mole removal or scar revision. In order to minimize scaring and optimize the outcome, scar gels or therapies can be considered following suture removal.
Torn earlobe gives an unattractive earlobe appearance. Surgical correction is simple, requiring only local anesthesia. Correction is very effective in restoring original earlobe appearance with a very acceptable small scar.
