Patients who have excess soft tissue over abdomen, flanks, hips, legs or back are good candidates for liposuction. Liposuction is the removal of excess fat through a very small incision.
Liposuction, liposculpting or suction lipectomy is the removal of subcutaneous fat via a suction cannula. The ratio between excess fat vs. skin and an appropriate amount of fat to be removed are important issues to be considered by the plastic surgeon and the patient when aiming for an optimal, safe outcome. Surgery is done via several small ports, leaving small scars, usually hidden in creases whenever possible. Recovery varies, often taking about one week or two prior to resuming pre-op work activities.
